Most first-time visitors to Sikkim know Gangtok, but seasoned travelers are now heading toward Zuluk. This tiny Himalayan village has become one of Sikkim’s fastest-growing offbeat destinations. Famous for its legendary zigzag roads and panoramic mountain views, Zuluk offers an adventure unlike anywhere else in India. As our vehicle climbed through more than thirty hairpin bends, every turn revealed an increasingly spectacular landscape. Clouds floated beneath us while distant mountain peaks appeared close enough to touch.
The highlight was reaching Thambi View Point before sunrise. Standing there in complete silence, we watched the first rays of sunlight illuminate the mighty Himalayan range. On clear days, travelers can even witness glimpses of the world’s third-highest peak, Kanchenjunga. The sight was mesmerizing. Photographs simply cannot capture the scale and beauty experienced in person. Every traveler nearby instinctively lowered their voices, almost as if respecting nature’s grandeur.

Unlike commercial tourist towns, Zuluk thrives on simplicity. We stayed in a family-run homestay where our hosts served homemade meals prepared using locally sourced ingredients. Fresh vegetables, hot rice, dal, and traditional dishes created a heartwarming dining experience. During conversations, locals shared stories about old Silk Route traders who once traveled through these mountains connecting India and Tibet. This historical connection gives Zuluk an entirely different character.

Zuluk is perfect for travelers seeking peace, photography opportunities, and authentic mountain life. Mobile networks are limited, luxury hotels are rare, and that is exactly what makes this destination special. It encourages visitors to disconnect from technology and reconnect with nature. In a world constantly demanding attention, Zuluk offers something increasingly valuable: stillness.
